Happy October and happy Eczema Awareness Month!!! For those of you who don’t already know, I’ve suffered from eczema for as long as I can remember. When I was much younger it covered nearly my entire body. I grew up in the desert with summer temperatures over 100 degrees on the regular. I was so embarrassed by my skin that I often suffered through those temperatures with long sleeves and jeans. No child, no teen, no adult should have to put themselves through such torture just because they want to hide their skin. Did you know that about 30 million people in the United States alone have some form of eczema? That is 30 million people who have a rash that itches like crazy, and if they’re anything like me, would itch it raw or until it bleeds.
Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, I went through a grueling 60 day elimination diet to finally get to the root cause of my eczema. In short I found out that gluten, corn and highly processed food all lead to a rash on my skin. But if you want to hear more about that part of my experience, you can read here and here.
Though I’ve managed to keep my skin under control for the most part, I am not perfect with my diet and sometimes I cave into temptations. When that happens, I inevitably have flare ups of my eczema. And that is when I reach for my Aveeno products. They are the #1 dermatologist recommended, over-the-counter, eczema moisturizer brand in the US, and they are the only products I use to help break the cycle of my irritated skin. There are three products in particular that I use: Aveeno Eczema Therapy Hand Cream, Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream and the Eczema Therapy Itch Relief Balm.
My flare ups tend to happen on my hands, feet and occasionally on my arms. In the morning and during the day I use the Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream, especially right after a shower and for everyday use.
The hand cream I carry with me and use throughout the day and right before going to bed.
But my favorite and most coveted product from the line is the Eczema Therapy Itch Relief Balm. My skin gets incredibly itchy in the evening for some reason, and it can keep me awake all night, so this balm is a life saver. I apply it whenever I am particularly itchy, but mostly at night before I go to bed so I can get a good night’s rest.
The entire line is formulated with oats, which are proven to reduce irritation and sooth the skin. It helps with itch, rough patchy skin and dryness. I feel like I have tried every over-the-counter product available and I always end up going back to Aveeno. They are affordable, reliable and they were awarded the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance for providing gentle, superior ingredients to soothe skin with eczema. So if my recommendation isn’t enough to get you to try their line, then maybe that will do it for you.
You can pick up all of these product at Walmart for around $30!!! But if you prefer to shop online, you can click on any of the images on this post and it will take you to the product on their site.
Ill have to give these a try
I love their products! Even though I don’t have eczema – their lotions are my favorite!
